“Management options for cool climate vineyards: present and future perspectives” was the title of the keynote address to the International Cool Climate Symposium 2006 by the viticultural scientist credited with changing the face of New Zealand vineyards in the 1980’s. He is Dr Richard Smart, now living in Launceston, Tasmania, who was recruited by the Ministry of Agriculture from his post as a lecturer at Roseworthy Agricultural College to be New Zealand’s Government Viticulturist.
